There was a hint of a dynasty at the seventh annual Shawano County Futurity at the Shawano County Fair on Saturday.
A 3-year-old cow, Synergy Always A Stunner-Red, won the event, which drew a class of 14, giving the Jauquet and Haack families their fifth consecutive win at the fair’s most formal event.
“I think she‘s a beautiful uddered cow,” Heather Jauquet said. “She’s a hard-working milk cow. I think that showed.”
The Jauquets and Haacks also received the second-place award with Synergy Always Smokin-Red.
The animals come from Synergy Dairy in the town of Angleica.
The cows are owned by Mason, Carter and Evan Jauquet, and their cousins, Carmen, Mikayla and Spencer Haack. The owners’ ages range from 13 to 19. They are the children of Jay and Heather Jauquet and Pete and Vonnie Haack.
Stunner-Red was shown by Mikayla Haack, 17, who also received awards for Best Dressed Junior and Best Junior Owned. Smokin-Red was shown by Carmen Haack, 19.
Jeff Styczynski won Best Dressed Male, and Kristin Allen was Best Dressed Female.
Milk-n-More was the Production Award winner.
The best-dressed awards were voted on by the audience. Angie Ulness from Valders was the dairy judge.
When calves are 3 months old, they can be entered in the futurity for a one-time entry fee. They can then be shown at the fair as a 3-year-old cow. The entry fees are divided among all the entries exhibited.
The futurity is intended to show future excellence in the breed. It not only promotes outstanding dairy cattle, but it also provides camaraderie among dairy producers, according to the event’s organizers.
