The Shawano School District will provide fee meals to youngsters and others who qualify during this year’s summer school, which runs from June 12 to July 14.

The Summer Food Service Program is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is administered by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

The program provides nutritious meals to children during the summer, when free and reduced-price school meals are unavailable.

“This program fills a void created when school breakfast and lunches are not available,” said Sarah Moesch, Taher Inc. food service director for the Shawano School District. “Helping parents meet the nutritional needs of their children is the strength of this program. The Shawano School District is excited to offer this service.”

Free meals will be available to eligible children 18 years of age and under. Persons over 18 years of age who are determined by a state or local public educational agency to be mentally or physically disabled and who also participate in a public or private nonprofit school program during the regular school year may receive free meals as well.

Hillcrest Primary School, Shawano Community Middle School and Shawano Community High School will serve free breakfast and free lunch every day during summer school. (School is not in session July 4.) Times vary per site.

Meals are provided to eligible children regardless of race, color, national origin, age, gender or disability.
