Roger Miller to return to board duties

A vacancy on the Shawano County Board has been filled — by the supervisor who initially resigned it.

District 21 Supervisor Roger Miller resigned from the board a little over two weeks ago.

The county posted an announcement that it was seeking someone interested in being appointed to that seat to fill out Miller’s term, which expires in April 2018.

The resignation was due to health reasons, according to the county clerk’s office.

County Clerk Pam Schmidt said Wednesday that Miller had rescinded his resignation and will return to the board.

She said that, according to the county corporation counsel, it was Miller’s prerogative to rescind the resignation because it had not yet been accepted by the county board.

County Board Chairman Jerry Erdmann said he was glad Miller is coming back.

“He’s a good man and I’m tickled pink his health has improved,” Erdmann said.

Erdmann said he was notified of Miller’s initial resignation the day before the last board meeting, but did not bring it before the board because he wanted to talk with corporation counsel first about the process for filling the seat.

He said he learned Tuesday that Miller’s health had improved and he was returning.

Erdmann said three people had gotten in touch with him about filling Miller’s seat after the notice of the vacancy was posted.

Miller, a member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Indian tribe, represents Ward 1 of the town of Red Springs, and all of the town of Bartelme and village of Bowler.

He was elected in April after defeating incumbent Bert Huntington by a vote of 272-196.

Miller could not be reached for a comment Wednesday.
