Photo by Curt Knoke Steven Schlender retired Sept. 30 after a 32-year career with the U.S. Postal Service.

Steven Schlender capped off 32 years with the United States Postal Service on Sept. 30.

Schlender initially worked in the Tilleda post office. He then held posts at the Oshkosh and Appleton offices. He became the postmaster in Gresham in 1993 and a supervisor to other area post offices in 2014.

Through the years Schlender has seen the price of a first-class stamp go from 22 cents in 1985 to the current 47 cents.

“I really looked forward to starting the day by raising the flag and greeting all the customers who came through the doors,” Schlender said. “I’ll miss the daily routine, but I relish the thought of retirement. It was a good run.”
