Two mobile home trailers were destroyed by fire Friday afternoon in the town of Bartelme, displacing an elderly couple, their son and grandson, according to the Stockbridge-Munsee Police Department.

Two trailers that were occupied sustained heavy damage. One trailer was occupied by the elderly couple, and another trailer was occupied by their son and grandson. A third being used for storage was slightly damaged, the Police Department said.

Stockbridge-Munsee Police Chief James Hoffman said the cause of the fire was not yet determined, but was considered suspicious.

The trailers at N9015 Murphy’s Road were fully engulfed when firefighters arrived shortly around 1 p.m., according to authorities.

There was no one injured and all family members have been accounted for. Early reports indicated a boy was inside one of the buildings, but he was found unharmed nearby. Several dogs also escaped the blaze.

The Red Cross was called in to provide assistance for the family.

Stockbridge-Munsee police and the sheriff’s department had detectives on scene investigating the incident, along with three fire marshals from the state Department of Criminal Investigations.

The Stockbridge-Munsee Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Bowler, Gresham and Shawano fire departments.
