A pickup truck operator was driving drunk Aug. 14 when he died in a traffic wreck that also killed a motorcycle rider near Bonduel, police said Wednesday.
Tony Garvey, 42, of De Pere, had a blood-alcohol content of 0.25 — more than three times above the legal limit for driving.
Garvey was killed in the incident along with Roger Patoka, 55, of Milwaukee, who was riding a motorcycle while his wife and children followed him in another vehicle.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department said Garvey was southbound on state Highway 47 about 10 p.m. when his truck crossed into the northbound lanes just south of Old 47 Road in the town of Hartland. The truck collided first with the motorcycle and then a SUV being driven by Patoka’s wife.
Three people wearing seat belts in the SUV escaped without serious injury.
Sheriff Adam Bieber said investigators are working with state accident reconstruction experts to complete their investigation into the incident.
Court records show that Garvey was convicted of his fourth drunken driving arrest in Outagamie County in May 2013. Sentenced to 14 months in prison, he was released after serving nine months. Court records also show that his driver’s license was revoked for three years — a period that would have continued until 2016.
