A Shawano man is facing felony charges after allegedly assaulting a city police officer during a disorderly conduct incident Tuesday.

Shane W. Demarb, 28, could face a maximum six years in prison and $10,000 fine on each of two counts of battery to a peace officer if found guilty.

He is accused of striking Officer Tyler Thornborrow in the head with his fist and biting him on the arm.

Thornborrow was treated at Shawano Medical Center and released. He was back on duty Wednesday, according to Police Chief Mark Kohl.

Thornborrow responded to a disturbance in the 800 block of East Maurer Street shortly before 4:30 p.m. involving a man who was upset with his case worker, according to the criminal complaint.

The man identified as Demarb was holding a piece of glass in his hand and was ordered to drop it, according to the complaint, which states Demarb threw the glass into the roadway and then struck Thornborrow in the head.

Demarb then tried to flee, according to the complaint, and was subdued by Thornborrow.

During the struggle to handcuff Demarb, Demarb allegedly bit Thornborrow on the arm, according to the complaint.

Demarb was ordered held on a $1,000 cash bond after a court appearance Wednesday. He is scheduled for an adjourned initial appearance Monday.
