Kevin Schultz, who was born and raised in Marion, was sworn in as the city’s new chief of police on Aug. 14. He replaces David Walker, who retired.
“I’ve had the pleasure of mentoring Kevin Schultz during this time,” Walker said. “He will make a fine chief. Rarely does a community appoint a new police chief who has such an intimate and lifelong knowledge and understanding of the community at large.
“Kevin is well respected and appreciated not only by the Marion officers but also throughout the law enforcement community in the county; largely from his time as a SWAT member. Kevin’s calm demeanor and ability to stay calm under pressure will serve him well as chief.”
Schultz, who has served as officer in charge intermittently since 2012, is a 15-year veteran of the Marion Police Department. He was awarded the officer first class insignia in March 2008 and his senior officer insignia in February 2012.
“I look forward to continuing to serve the community now as the chief,” Schultz said. “I will always have an open door for the citizens of the community and will strive to continue to make Marion a safe and great place to live, work and play.”
Schultz is a member of the Waupaca County SWAT team and is certified to train law enforcement officers in pistol, rifle and emergency vehicle operation. A 1997 graduate of Marion High School, he holds a degree in criminal justice from Fox Valley Technical College.
Schultz and his wife, Melissa, have three children.
