3 others hurt near Bonduel
By:

Two people were killed and three others were injured Friday night in a traffic collision on a two-lane road near Bonduel.

The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department said the incident occurred on state Highway 47 when the driver of a pickup truck crossed the centerline and collided with a motorcycle and an SUV going in the opposite direction.

Pronounced dead at the scene were the pickup truck driver, a 42-year-old De Pere man, and the motorcycle rider, a 55-year-old Milwaukee man.

Taken to the hospital were the driver and two passengers in the SUV, who were the motorcycle rider’s wife, age 53, and two children, a 16-year-old girl and 12-year-old boy. A spokeswoman at Shawano Medical Center declined to provide information on their conditions.

The sheriff’s department said witnesses reported that the pickup truck driver crossed the centerline while heading south on Highway 47 just south of Old 47 Road in an unincorporated area called Slab City in the town of Hartland.

The pickup truck collided head-on with the motorcycle first and then with the SUV, whose driver was following the motorcycle.

Police reports did not indicate if the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet or if the other parties were wearing seatbelts.

The Wisconsin State Patrol was assisting investigators to reconstruct the accident.
