As we discussed in Friday’s edition, NEW Media Inc, including the Shawano Leader, Oconto County Times Herald and the Wittenberg Enterprise and Birnamwood News, is a constant and presence in our communities. We support community activities and organizations in our communities because we live here, work here and have a personal stake in our communities.
We believe that informed individuals make better citizens. We also believe that businesses have to model good citizenship by being involved in the communities we serve. Sometimes, we can accomplish this through news coverage. But we also support valuable community organizations through direct donations and advertising.
For example we work with the The Shawano Folk Festival, Safe Haven, Sundrop Dayz; Wittenberg-Birnamwood FFA Alumni Corn Roast and partner with the Oconto Falls library and chamber of commerce and their events. Our participation reflects the diverse interests of our communities — sports, farming, politics, volunteers, curing diseases, education, community development and tourism.
We celebrate volunteers, help bring music to Shawano parks and even help to pack Purses for a Purpose.
To do justice to our role as a good business citizen, we also have to change with the times and economic forces. That’s why on Aug. 7, we’re changing the Shawano Leader, the Wittenberg Enterprise and Birnamwood News and the Oconto County Times Herald to a new, modern “booklet” or tabloid format. Your Community Shopper and the Super Shopper will also be printed in the new format.
The Leader will be printed and delivered as the Wolf River Wednesday and Wolf River Weekend on Saturday. The two editions will provide more local news and sports coverage as well as the features you’ve always wanted such as a crossword puzzle, comics (in color) and the TV listings. The Wittenberg-Birnamwood newspaper will be printed as part of the Leader on Wednesdays, providing more news and sports than subscribers have seen previously. The Oconto County Times Herald will continue to be the steady presence that it has been for decades.
We’re also consolidating our three websites into one: newmedia-wi.com.
The new site will be your single, robust source of news and sports in northeastern Wisconsin. In other words, more local news, more often. The site will be updated at least eight times a day from Monday through Friday, and news as it happens will be posted on the weekends.
The new site will be free of charge until Sept. 6. After that date, a subscription will be charged, similar to nearly all other legitimate news sources. You can get an introductory offer of complete access to the site for for three months for $12. You can also subscribe at 99 cents for a day, $10 per month on a month-to-month basis or $99 for unlimited access for a year.
We make these changes to position ourselves to be the best source of news, sports and advertising for everyone in our communities. Join us as we work to make our part of northeastern Wisconsin a better place to live.
