Shawano County Economic Progress Inc. (SCEPI) will hold its ninth annual Economic Summit on Thursday.

Dennis Heling, SCEPI chief economic development officer, said the summit’s speakers and topic will stress the importance of cooperation among area leaders to grow and maintain a vibrant workforce for area employers.

SCEPI in 2012 launched Vision 2017, a five-year campaign to raise $1.27 million to help create 1,000 new jobs in the area.

“The theme of this year’s Economic Summit is Connection and Direction,” Heling said. “Having a good quality area workforce that meets the needs of area employers is a crucial economic development strategy that drives business retention, expansions and new business attraction.”

The speakers will include Dorothy Erdmann, CEO of Shawano Medical Center, who will address the construction of the new ThedaCare Medical Center-Shawano and its economic impact on the Shawano area.

Rick Kane, SCEPI board president, said the annual Economic Summit provides SCEPI with a unique opportunity.

“These events enable us to highlight development activities and projects that affect the area in many positive ways,” Kane said. “The summit is an opportunity to thank contributors and our many supporters, but it’s also our chance to demonstrate how SCEPI, local, city, county and tribal governments work with area employers to enhance the quality of life for everyone who lives and works in Shawano and Menominee counties.”

Registration for the summit is still available for $30 per person or $55 per couple. Corporate tables that seat eight are available for $225. Registration fees include dinner and dessert.

Doors open at 5 p.m. at The Gathering, 2600 E. Richmond St., Shawano.

For information or reservations, contact SCEPI at 715-526-5839 or llw5839@frontiernet.net.
