A homicide investigation is under way after human remains were found Saturday afternoon in the town of Richmond, the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department said.
The remains, along with what Sheriff Randy Wright said were other “evidence and artifacts,” have been sent for forensic examination and an autopsy to the State Crime Lab.
Wight said a group of young adults found the remains along the south side of Peach Road near County Road MMM and called the Sheriff’s Department around 5:25 p.m.
“As with situations as this, the case is being handled as a possible homicide at this time,” Wright said.
No further information was being released Sunday.
Wright said there would be no update until the results and positive identification come back from the State Crime Lab.
Recovery of the remains took until about 2 a.m. Sunday. A guard was then posted and deputies returned Sunday morning to comb the area for “information and other items to be found,” Wright said.
Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by Shawano police, State Crime Lab and the Shawano and Bonduel fire departments, which brought equipment used in the recovery to the scene.
