SACF provides grants to 12 organizations

The Shawano Area Community Foundation has approved $35,750 in grants from its Shawano Area Fund to 12 charitable organizations serving people in Shawano County.

The Shawano Area Fund is an endowment that accepts donations of any amount to be used to provide annual grants. The foundation’s volunteer grants committee selects grant recipients through a competitive application process each fall. The grant dollars come from the endowment fund and proceeds from the foundation’s annual Harvest Moon Soirée fundraising event.

The 2017 Shawano Area Fund grant recipients are as follows:

• Belle Plaine EMS – To supply each first responder with required equipment to ensure the survival of patients who need emergency assistance. Amount awarded: $2,500

• Bridge the Gap Inc. – To provide a social skills and daily living skills summer camp for clients ages 5-21 with autism spectrum disorders. Amount awarded: $4,000

• CHAPS Academy – To support the Hope Lives suicide intervention and prevention program which incorporates equine, play and art therapies for those at risk of suicide. Amount awarded: $2,500

• City of Shawano – To aid in the completion of a skate park which was begun 10 years ago. The skate park will fill a need for positive unstructured activities for older youth. Amount awarded: $5,000

• First Presbyterian Church – To provide financial assistance for families seeking childcare through the Kids Klub daycare program. Amount awarded: $2,000

• Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes Inc. – To provide leadership development programming and financial assistance to current and future area Girl Scouts. Amount awarded: $2,000

• Junior Achievement of Wisconsin – Wolf River Region District – To provide general operating support for ongoing Junior Achievement programming for K-12 students in participating schools in Shawano and Menominee counties. Amount awarded: $2,500

• Lutheran Counseling & Family Services of Wisconsin – To support mental health counseling sessions for Shawano area clients who are unable to pay the full cost of treatments. Amount awarded: $2,500

• Northeast Wisconsin Technical College Educational Foundation – To provide financial support for educational expenses of Shawano area students who are single parents. Amount awarded: $3,750

• Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Wisconsin – To sponsor a guest room at the Ronald McDonald House for a Shawano County family for a period of two months. Amount awarded: $2,000

• Safe Haven Domestic Abuse Support Center – To help purchase and install a security system for the new section of the organization’s building expansion. Amount awarded: $5,000

• Shawano Area Matthew 25 – To purchase cots, shelving units, a leaf blower and cleaning supplies to help the organization maintain a clean shelter and more effectively serve their client needs. Amount awarded: $2,000
