Use a computer to facilitate a child sex crime
A Gillett man pleaded not guilty last week to felony charges of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime, child enticement and causing a child to view sexual activity.
Timothy A. Tennant, 50, was the latest defendant to be caught up in a Shawano County Sheriff’s Department sting operation aimed at proactively catching suspected child sex predators.
According to the criminal complaint, Tennant responded to an internet ad posted by a sheriff’s detective posing as a 15-year-old girl.
Communications were shared that became sexually graphic in nature and and a sexual rendezvous was eventually arranged.
Tennant was arrested when he arrived.
Tennant could face a maximum 40 years in prison and a $100,000 fine if found guilty of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime.
He is also charged with a felony count of child enticement and three counts of causing a child to view sexual activity. He is accused of sending the supposed child sexually graphic images.
Tennant was ordered held on a $5,000 cash bond as is due back in court for a pre-trial conference on Feb. 20.
Strangulation and suffocation
An Oshkosh man is facing multiple felony domestic violence charges in connection with an alleged New Year’s Day domestic incident in the town of Belle Plaine.
Jordan J. C. Gilbo, 23, pleaded not guilty last week to charges of strangulation and suffocation, false imprisonment, substantial battery, administering a dangerous and stupefying drug and bail jumping.
Gilbo is accused of attacking a woman, forcing her to take narcotic pills, preventing her from leaving her residence, threatening her with a firearm and at one point choking her, according to the criminal complaint.
Gilbo could face a maximum 12½ years in prison and a $25,000 fine if convicted of administering a dangerous drug; six years and a $10,000 fine for strangulation and suffocation, false imprisonment and bail jumping; and 3½ years in prison and a $10,000 fine for substantial battery.
Gilbo posted a $10,000 cash bond and is due back in court for a pre-trial conference on March 22.
Felony OWI
A Shawano man has been charged with fifth offense operating while intoxicated, this time with a minor child in the vehicle.
Marvin L. Matchopatow Jr., 37, was arrested Jan. 13 in Shawano after an accident in the city.
According to the complaint, Matchopatow admitted to drinking and to smoking marijuana. A preliminary breath test showed a blood-alcohol count of 0.1.
Matchopatow had two children in the vehicle, a 1-year-old and a 3-year-old, according to the complaint.
Matchopatow could face anywhere from one year to 20 years in prison on the OWI charge if convicted and a fine of $1,200 to $50,000.
He is also charged with two felony possession of marijuana counts that each carry a maximum of 3½ years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Matchopatow was ordered held on a $500 cash bond at an initial appearance Jan. 16. His next court date has not been set.
