A Shawano man is facing a felony charge of possessing a firearm on school grounds after bringing a weapon to work at the Shawano Community High School Wednesday.
Ramon S. Vazquez, 56, a contract employee of food services brought and displayed a holstered firearm in the high school kitchen area, according to the criminal complaint.
High school administration was notified and the school district contacted police around 11 a.m.
Police located Vazquez and found the gun stashed in the kitchen office, at which point he was taken into custody.
Police and the school district both say there were no threats made and there was no danger to students or school employees.
Police and school officials made the decision to continue the school day as normal.
Vazquez could face a maximum 3 1/2 years in prison and a $10,000 fine if convicted of the felony charge. He is also charged with misdemeanor counts of carrying a firearm in a public building and resisting or obstructing an officer.
He was ordered held Thursday on a $500 cash bond and is due back in court for an adjourned initial appearance on Jan. 29.
