The Shawano County Board seat left vacant with the passing Friday of Supervisor Roger Miller will remain open until the April election.
County Board Chairman Jerry Erdmann said the county has decided to leave the seat vacant because of the election, which is only three months away.
Bert Huntington and Joseph Miller are both running to fill that seat in the April 3 election.
Roger Miller, 65, had previously briefly resigned the district seat in January of last year for health reasons, but rescinded the resignation and returned to his board duties.
Miller was a member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Indian Tribe, where he was emergency preparedness coordinator and a member of the Stockbridge-Munsee Volunteer Fire Department.
As Shawano County supervisor for District 21, he represented Ward 1 of the town of Red Springs, the town of Bartelme and the village of Bowler.
He was elected in April 2016 after defeating incumbent Huntington by a vote of 272-196.
“Roger was a good member of the County Board and a veteran,” Erdmann said
He said he got along well with Miller and was able to communicate well with him.
“He will be missed by many on the County Board,” Erdmann said.
