The merger of two area credit unions was completed over the weekend, and a NEW Credit Union sign went up outside the former Badger Credit Union office in Peshtigo.
The merger, which was announced in March, was effective Sunday.
Badger Credit Union, one of the oldest credit unions in the state at 83 years, originally started at Badger Paper Mill. NEW Credit Union, based in Oconto Falls, started 55 years ago at Scott Paper Mill.
With the merger, NEW Credit Union’s field of membership now includes all those who live or work in Brown, Marinette, Oconto and Shawano counties in Wisconsin and Menomonie County in Michigan.
In a joint statement, Lisa Gilligan, CEO of NEW Credit Union, and Sharon Anderson, CEO of Badger Credit Union, said the partnership is “a great opportunity” for both institutions.
“Our credit unions have worked together closely for many years,” the statement said. “Both credit unions are financially strong, but this move will allow our member access to more products and services, and stay current with technology. We are both local and share the same philosophies of carrying for our members and our communities.”
The partnership strengthens the commitment to service and expands branch access for members, the two CEOs said.
NEW Credit Union now has offices in Oconto Falls, Suring, Oconto and Peshtigo.
