Anna Mae Tempus, a 2012 graduate of Shawano Community High School, was recently honored by the Wisconsin Council of Teachers of English with a Nancy Hoefs Memorial Award for Outstanding First Year Teacher.

Tempus, who teaches at Stevens Point Area High School, graduated magna cum laude from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2016.

“To receive the Outstanding First Year Teacher award means the world to me; it is both an affirmation and encouragement in my career,” Tempus said. “I felt so humbled when I learned the news, but I also felt it a testament to my own Wisconsin education and the teachers who guided me on my path to this calling.

“This award both challenges and motivates me to always set my personal and professional bar high. I know with family, friends, and my incredible colleagues and students on my side, I will always be able to reach it.”

Tempus teaches English 10 and Advanced Composition II, a college-level writing seminar. She is also the National Honor Society faculty adviser.

Tempus will speak at the state council’s conference this fall and will attend the national conference as well.
