A tree grown in Shawano will be the official White House Christmas tree.
Silent Night Evergreens in Endeavor won the National Christmas Tree Contest in August. Owners Jim, Diane and David Chapman have decided to work with Hanauer’s Christmas Tree Farms in Shawano to provide the White House tree.
The tree that will be selected Monday will be displayed in the Blue Room of the White House.
Officials say White House Christmas trees must be between 18 and 19 feet tall. Most commercial Christmas tree growers do not have trees that tall, so the Chapmans will work with the Hanauers for the tree.
Harvest of the tree will take place in late November.
Winners of the National Christmas Tree Association’s contest have provided the official White House Christmas Tree since 1966.
Hanauer’s Christmas Tree Farms is located at W7816 Broadway Road. It has been owned and operated by the family for 48 years, according to the firm’s Facebook page.
