Computer sex crime
Shawano County authorities last week arrested two more suspects in the latest round of computer sex crime sting operations.
Zachary M. Laffin, 21, of Wausau, and Keith P. Dart, 24, of Green Bay, are each facing a felony charge of using a computer to facilitate a child sex crime.
The operations involve detectives posing as juveniles on the internet and either posting or responding to ads on websites such as Craigslist. Once contact is made, communications eventually turn sexually graphic in nature, and the suspects arrange to meet for a sexual rendezvous, even though the detectives have made clear they are underage. The men are taken into custody when they arrive.
Laffin and Dart were both arrested by Shawano County sheriff’s deputies on June 29.
Each could face a maximum 40 years in prison and $100,000 fine if convicted.
Dart is also charged with two counts of causing a child to view sexual activity for graphic photos he allegedly sent. Each of those counts carries a maximum six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Laffin and Dart are both free on $2,500 signature bonds.
Laffin is due back in court for a preliminary hearing Aug. 17.
Dart is scheduled for an adjourned initial court appearance July 24.

A Mattoon man has been charged with a felony count of strangulation and suffocation for allegedly choking a woman during a domestic incident in the village Sunday.

Ortega was ordered held on a $500 cash bond and is scheduled for an adjourned initial court appearance Monday.

She could face a maximum 12½ years in prison and a $25,000 fine if convicted of burglary; 10 years and a $25,000 fine if found guilty of being a felon in possession of a firearm; and six years and a $10,000 fine if convicted of felony theft.
