Clintonville employees this week honored City Administrator Chuck Kell, whose last day with the city will be June 28.

Kell was hired in September 2014 as interim administrator after the resignation of Lisa Kotter amid infighting within a divided council. The interim designation was removed in August 2015.

Speaking on behalf of the city staff Tuesday at a Common Council meeting, Police Chief James Beggs praised Kell for his leadership when the city was going through a difficult time.

“You taught us to think outside the box, to make the best out of our budget, and find ways to secure materials and monies. You adapted to us,” Beggs said. “You made us do our job. You helped us. You were involved, and your door was always open. You made time for us.

“You taught us how to attain our goals. You empowered us on how to relinquish power to make a better leader out of us and lead our department better. We appreciate you and wish the best for you. You are a survivor.”

Kell thanked the council and commended the department heads and the staff on how well they work together. He said his successor, Sharon Eveland, will be a good city administrator.

Eveland, of Georgia, was hired in February and started work in April so she had time to work with Kell before his departure.

Following a closed session, the council voted to give City Clerk Peggy Johnson an extra $3,000 for the extra responsibilities she has taken on when Kell was not available.
