A major renovation at Aldi’s grocery store in Shawano is expected to be completed by mid-June, with a grand reopening and ribbon cutting scheduled for June 15.
The expansion is adding about 12,000 square feet to the west of the existing building at 1253 E. Green Bay St., according to the building permit on file with the city.
The remodeling is part of the grocery chain’s $1.6 billion plan to renovate and expand more than 1,300 stores nationwide by 2020, with nearly $18 million dedicated to enhancing 10 stores in the Green Bay-Appleton region, including Shawano.
“The new Aldi store look delivers on its customers’ desire for a modern and convenient shopping experience with a focus on fresh items, including more robust produce, dairy and bakery sections,” according to a company press release. “Remodeled stores will also feature a modern design, open ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally-friendly building materials – such as recycled materials, energy-saving refrigeration and LED lighting.”
The grand reopening of the Shawano store is set for 8:25 a.m. June 15. The story is closed until the remodeling is completed.
The ceremony will be followed by Golden Ticket giveaway, eco-friendly bag distribution, Produce for a Year sweepstakes and product sampling.
Grand reopenings and ribbon-cuttings are also scheduled in Appleton on June 8 and in Green Bay on June 22.
