Demolition of a building damaged by fire in downtown Clintonville in November should be completed by the end of the week, according to city officials.

Following the fire Nov. 23, Zhen Weng, owner of the building at 46 S. Main St. that housed the China King Restaurant and some apartments, said the building was not insured and there was no money for repairs.

City officials ultimately determined the building was beyond repair and authorized the demolition.

Next door, the Bluebird Cafe has been prohibited from opening because of a wall that appeared ready to collapse.

Go Green Recycling LLC, of Menasha, began the demolition Tuesday.

Clintonville Public Works Manager Kray Brown said the work has been difficult, due to the nearby overhead wires, the amount of items in the building, the common wall with the Bluebird Cafe, at 44 S. Main, and the wall of B & H Footwear at 48 S. Main.

The demolition is expected to be completed this week.

Sandy Schultz, owner of the Bluebird Cafe, said she plans to re-open as soon as possible.
