The Shawano County Department of Human Services said this week there is still time to apply for the Wisconsin Home Energy Assistance Program.
WHEAP assistance is a one-time payment during the heating season. The funding pays a portion of the heating costs, but the payment is not intended to cover the entire cost of heating a residence. The amount of the energy assistance benefit varies depending on a variety of factors, including the household’s size, income and energy costs.
For customers that are in disconnect situations or other heating season emergencies, there may be help in the form of pro-active services, direct payment assistance or a combination of these.
Weatherization assistance might also be available to some applicants. Weatherization can include help with furnace issues and repairs, insulation and other energy efficient issues.
