Scholarship program application period open

The application period is now open for higher education scholarships through Scholarships Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Green Bay.

Though primarily geared to seniors graduating from high schools in Brown and Door counties, opportunities extend to students in the NEW North region, including Shawano County.

Two scholarship opportunities are open to Shawano County students, including the Albert and Mary Rhoades Foundation award and the Deprey-Skyline Family Information Technology Scholarship.

To be eligible for the Rhoades Foundation, applicants must attend a fully accredited four-year U.S. college or university in pursuit of a bachelor’s degree; be enrolled full-time (12 credits or more per semester) in fall 2017; and pursue a major in the arts, humanities, religious studies, education or select social sciences.

For the Deprey-Skyline scholarship, applicants must demonstrate financial need; attend a fully accredited four-year U.S. college, university or technical college in pursuit of an associate or bachelor’s degree; be enrolled full-time (12 credits or more per semester) in fall 2017; and pursue a major in information technology, computer science or information systems.

In 2016, scholarships ranged from $1,000-$17,000, according to Scholarships Inc., with an average award of $3,255. Many of the scholarships can be renewed for multiple years.

Final scholarship recipients will be recognized July 26 at the Scholarships Inc. Lamp of Knowledge Celebration at Shopko Hall in Green Bay.

Applications are available at www.scholarshipsinc.org/scholarships and are due by 11:59 p.m. April 6.
