A fire that damaged a building on Clintonvile’s Main Street originated in the kitchen, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation, according to the Clintonville Fire Department.

Fire Chief Andrew Beggs issued a press release Friday providing more details about Wednesday night’s fire, including details about the two people injured.

Clintonville police officers and Clintonville Area Ambulance crews were dispatched to 49 S. Main Street for a report of a fire in an upstairs apartment at 8:20 p.m. on Wednesday. A 58-year-old female and a 64-year-old male were found injured; their names were not released.

The woman was escorted away from the fire, and two officers found the man lying halfway out of the upstairs apartment door unconscious and not breathing, according to Beggs. The man was removed from the fire and CPR was performed. The man was revived and turned over to the ambulance that was on the scene.

Both individuals suffered significant injuries and both were flown by air ambulance to a Milwaukee hospital for treatment where they are listed as being in stable condition as of Friday morning.

The Clintonville Fire Department was assisted by fire departments from Marion, Manawa, Bear Creek, Pella, and Embarrass. The nature of the building configuration, age of the structure, and other adjacent buildings made the fire difficult to combat, according to Beggs.

The state fire marshal’s office was called to assist in the investigation. It was determined that the origin of the fire was in the kitchen area of the apartment. The fire is still under investigation, according to Beggs.
