City officials are reviewing a proposed capital improvement projects plan for 2017 that would total $1.6 million, with most of that going to street projects.
The Shawano Finance Committee will get its first look at the CIP plan Monday. It was reviewed Tuesday by the field committee.
Major street reconstructions proposed would total $570,000 if approved, with several smaller projects paid for through the city’s Tax Incremental Finance district.
Another $505,000 is proposed for street pulverizing and relay projects.
Some of the major street reconstruction projects have been planned for several years and were held over from previous CIP plans.
They include Franklin Street, from Oshkosh to Wescott streets, originally planned back in 2012, at a cost of $125,000; Hamlin Street, from Fifth to Schurz streets, from 2014, at $310,000; and Franklin Street, from First to Third streets, held over from last year, at $135,000.
Three other street reconstruction projects will be funded through the city’s TIF District 6: Division Street, from Hamlin Street to 500 feet east; Schurz Street, from Hamlin to 500 feet east; and storm sewer repairs on East Green Bay Street.
The TIF-funded projects total $305,000.
The CIP plan also calls for pulverizing and relay projects along portions of Southview Court, Lee Court, Third Street, Valley Lane, Park Street and Maiden Lane.
The CIP proposal also calls for $206,000 in equipment purchases, including $135,000 for a plow truck replacement; one of three the Department of Public Works wants to put through between 2017 and 2021.
Also included in the plan is $345,000 for other services, such as the city’s annual concrete crushing, sidewalk replacement and crack filling programs, as well as city parking lot restoration and updates to the public works building.
The proposed CIP budget of $1.6 million for 2017 would be an increase from $1.5 million this year and $1.49 million in 2017.
