Sex offender violation
A federal grand jury on Tuesday returned a one-count indictment charging John Mendoza, of Keshena, with a violation of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
If convicted of the offense, Mendoza, 39, faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and from five years up to lifetime of supervised release.
According to the indictment, Mendoza failed to comply with the sex offender registry from June through Aug. 11.
The case was investigated by the Menominee Tribal Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Corrections Sex Offender Registry Program, United States Probation Office, and United States Marshals Service.
Assault
A federal grand jury on Tuesday returned a one-count indictment charging Bryant Waupoose Sr., of Keshena, with assault resulting in serious bodily harm.
If convicted, Waupoose, 47, faces a sentence of up to 10 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and up to three years of supervised release.
According to the indictment, Waupoose, punched and kicked a man on or about July 31, leading to the man suffering a broken jaw and fractured foot. The incident occurred in Keshena on the Menominee Indian Reservation.
The case was investigated by the Menominee Tribal Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Felony OWI
A Gillett man is facing a felony charge of fifth-offense operating while intoxicated after being pulled over in the town of Angelica on Monday.
Brent J. Duprey, 67, was pulled over for speeding on County Road C by sheriff’s deputies working a seat-belt grant detail, according to the criminal complaint.
The complaint states that a preliminary breath test showed Duprey had a blood-alcohol level of 0.10 percent.
According to court records, Duprey has two previous OWI convictions in Marinette County and two in Oconto County.
He could face a maximum six years in prison and $10,000 fine if convicted.
Duprey is free on a $2,500 signature bond and is scheduled for an adjourned initial appearance Oct. 17.
OWI-injury
A Suamico man is accused of causing injury to a 12-year-old boy who was riding in a golf cart the man was allegedly operating while intoxicated.
John G. Wesolowski, 44, could face a maximum two years in prison and $4,000 fine if found guilty of the felony count.
He is also charged with misdemeanor counts of first-offense OWI with a minor in the vehicle and obstructing an officer.
According to the criminal complaint, the incident took place at Pinegrove Campground in the town of Seneca on Sept. 16.
Wesolowski had been operating the golf cart on Campground Road with his three sons in the vehicle when one of the boys fell out, according to the complaint.
A preliminary breath test showed Wesolowski had a blood-alcohol level of 0.114 percent, the complaint states.
Wesolowski is free on a $1,000 signature bond and is due back in court for an adjourned initial appearance on Nov. 22.
