Authorities Tuesday were still investigating the events surrounding a shooting during a domestic disturbance in Mattoon.
A 24-year-old Mattoon man sustained “significant injuries” during the incident on Marble Avenue in the village early Sunday, the Shawano County Sheriff’s Department said.
A 32-year-old Mattoon woman was taken into custody. No charges had been filed or referred as of Tuesday.
However, Capt. Tom Tuma said, charges could be filed as soon as Wednesday.
The Sheriff’s Department’s Special Response Team responded to a call around 12:45 a.m. and found the man with a gunshot wound, the sheriff’s department said in a news release.
According to authorities, a rapid response by Mattoon Ambulance was instrumental in saving the man’s life.
Wisconsin State Patrol and the Langlade County Sheriff’s Department also assisted in the response.
