A 54-year-old Shawano man was taken to ThedaCare Medical Center on Monday afternoon after riding a lawnmower on state Highway 22 in Belle Plaine.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Department did not have information on what he was being treated for, but said he was dressed very lightly for the sub-freezing temperatures.
Authorities received two calls shortly after 5 p.m. about a lawnmower being driven southbound on Highway 22 toward Highway 29 and moving in and out of traffic.
There were some concerns the man might have been headed for the on-ramp to Highway 29, but authorities said that wasn’t clear.
“We don’t know what his intentions were,” Chief Deputy George Lenzner said.
A sheriff’s squad pulled in front of the lawnmower to stop it while it was still on Highway 22, but the lawnmower continued and struck the squad. The man was then transported to the hospital by Shawano Ambulance.
Lenzner said there are no charges associated with the incident.
