Reports of possible shotgun blasts at a residence in the city early Monday turned out to have been fireworks, police learned once they were able to search the home.

Police Chief Mark Kohl said officers found debris from ignited and exploded fireworks but no weapons. Some drug paraphernalia was also seized, according to the police report.

A 19-year-old Shawano man and an 18-year-old Clintonville man were taken into custody on charges of disorderly conduct and failure to comply with law enforcement.

Dispatch received a call of possible shotgun blasts coming from the area of Union Street and Lieg Avenue about 12:20 a.m., according to the Police Department.

Officers responded and heard loud explosive bangs coming from a residence in the 600 block of East Lieg Avenue. They attempted telephone contact with residents, and later used a public address system to request the occupants to exit the home.

Kohl said police could see the two males repeatedly peeking out the window during the incident.

The occupants refused to exit and the Shawano County Special Response Team was summoned for assistance. The SRT also requested Brown County’s Bearcat armored vehicle.

The home owner, who was not on scene, was contacted and gave police permission to enter the residence.

Kohl said police also learned from the home owner that a 13-year-old girl was in the residence. It was believed she might be in danger, Kohl said.

Kohl also said police had responded to domestic disturbance calls at the address in the past.

Officers, with the assistance of the county SRT, were able to gain entrance.

The 19-year-old and the girl then came out of the house voluntarily. Officers entered the house to take custody of the 18-year-old.

The girl was released to a family member.

No one was injured in the incident.
