The transit commission in Clintonville is seeking residents’ input on possibly expanding the city taxi service.

The city contracts with Truck City Taxi, founded 23 years ago by Richard Koeppen, for the service.

The taxi serves Clintonville and an 8-mile radius around the city. Some assisted living facilities have contracts with the service, and the county nutrition program also pays a one-way fare for patrons of the senior meal program at the Community Center.

Taxi rates, which are subsidized by state and federal grants and the city, are $2.75 for seniors and other eligible patrons and $4 for other riders.

Mary-Beth Kuester, chairwoman of the transit commission, said residents have asked her about expanding the service on weekends. Currently taxi service is offered from 7:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

The service provides about 750 rides per month, Kuester said, noting that the primary users are seniors and people with special needs.

People who would use an expanded weekend taxi service are asked to contact Kuester at 715-823-5133 or mbkuester@clintonvillewi.org. Information about the possible expansion also will be included in city residents’ utility bills.

“We want to make people aware of this valuable service to our citizens at such an affordable cost,” Kuester stated in a press release she issued this week.

To call for a taxi, dial 715-823-7888.
