Tower Clock Eye Center has opened a new office building in Shawano at 229 E. Green Bay St., the former site of Family Dollar.

“We built it to serve the Shawano community,” said Dr. Kurt Schwiesow, who owns the business with his brother, Dr. Tyson Schwiesow, and Dr. Matthew Thompson.

The building has been remodeled and equipped with the latest technology.

“A lot of what we do depends on equipment,” Schwiesow said.

The first cataract surgery done here was by Karl Schwiesow, Kurt and Tyson’s father, who started Tower Clock in 1980 and still works part time.

In 1982, the business began leasing space at Shawano Medical Center, but over the years outgrew the space.

Surgery will still be done at the hospital or at the firm’s surgery center in Green Bay.

The new clinic will provide more room to exam and treat patients, however, and fewer patients will have to make trips to Green Bay.

The clinic will be open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and every other Thursday.

As the business grows, the hours might be expanded, Schwiesow said.

“We work hard to build lasting relationships with community physicians and optometrists and support the Shawano community,” Schwiesow said.
