An 89-year-old Clintonville man died Thursday from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 45 in Marion, according to the Marion Police Department.

The crash occurred about 4:48 p.m. near the Department of Transportation wayside.

Police say the Clintonville man exited the wayside and made a left turn onto Highway 45, then proceeded northbound in the southbound lanes of traffic, where he collided with a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old Shiocton man.

The Clintonville man and a male passenger in the other vehicle had to be extricated by the Marion Area Fire Department.

The Clintonville man was flown from the scene by Theda Star Air Medical Transport and was taken to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah.

Police were notified about 10 p.m. that he had succumbed to his injuries and had passed away.

The Shiocton man and his passenger — a 26-year-old Freedom man — were transported by the Clintonville Area Ambulance Service to the ThedaCare Medical Center-New London with injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

A crash reconstruction was completed by the Wisconsin State Patrol. The crash remains under investigation and names are being withheld at this time pending notification of families.

The Marion Police Department was assisted by the Clintonville Police Department, Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, Wisconsin State Patrol, Marion Area Fire Department, Clintonville Area Ambulance Service, Tigerton Area Ambulance Service, and Theda Star Air Medical Transport.
