Police have located a suspect vehicle in a hit-and-run traffic incident that left a man dead July 25 on the Menominee Indian Tribe reservation.
Tribal Police Chief Mark K. Waukau Sr. said investigators have located the vehicle that they believe struck and killed David Hawpetoss.
Hawpetoss, 48, a tribal member living in Gresham, died after being found injured about 4:15 a.m. July 25 on Old South Branch Road north of Keshena. Broken automobile parts found at the scene gave police an indication what type of vehicle was involved.
Although no suspect was in custody as of Friday afternoon, Waukau said the discovery of the vehicle has led investigators to people of interest in the case.
“We’re heavy into this investigation,” he said.
